Guatemala Travel Costs and Living Expenses in 2021

The last year hasn't been easy for us in many ways. While I am and we are surrounded by miracle moments, each and every one of us is walking through battles others do not see. At the same time, it's easy to focus on what we see than what we don't see. The moment we stretch our faith, mindset and actions is when our circumstances begin to change.

When I took one of the biggest leaps of faith of all - in choosing full-time entrepreneurship in 2011 - I never imagined I would walk through the challenges in character and circumstances I have. I absolutely did not think some of my own transformation, or business results would take as long as they have. I didn't imagine the impacts to my loved ones either.

The transformation from the inside out is not easy. Creating a life and business you love is worth the struggle, strength and satisfaction you experience along the way. Transformation is required to create what you love. Increasing your online presence is too.

If you are anything like me, you have challenges with lies, fears, and resistance. We all do.

It's called being human. Take down the mask, and put on the gloves.

Fight.

Fight for your freedom.

From the inside out.

It is and You Are Worth It.

Creating a life and business you love will cost you who you were and many things about your life.

It will gain you freedom, purpose and passion beyond what you imagined.

The end of last year, I took another leap of faith much sooner than I thought I would. I cast a vision to Travel to 7 Continents years ago starting the end of 2021. A combination of God's vision for my life, as well as circumstances brought travel to Costa Rica to me in the middle of a pandemic much sooner than I thought.

Taking the leap of faith to travel globally sooner felt aligned from a spiritual standpoint in prayer and purpose, as well as from a practical perspective in living expenses and costs. In evaluating my faith, circumstances, and safety, I felt complete peace in taking the leap. At the start of 2021, I spent almost three months in Costa Rica.

After travel to Costa Rica, I originally thought I would travel to Nicaragua. However, with both pandemic challenges, as well as logistical issues with flights, I decided not to. For years, Antigua and Lake Atitlan in Guatemala have been on my bucket list with travel to 7 Continents. So, I decided to take the leap. I am so glad I did. Guatemala surprised me in countless ways!

Let's talk about Guatemala Travel Costs and Living Expenses in 2021.

Travel Costs and Living Expenses in Guatemala

I evaluated my travel costs and living expenses in Guatemala prior to arriving. In essence, travel costs and living expenses anywhere in the world include living, food, transportation and clothing/souvenir type expenses.

In addition, I tracked the 6 Pack of Wealth daily including creating, giving, saving, investing, leveraging, and spending to continue to improve my relationship with abundance in all forms.

There are creative ways to make money and reduce expenses whether you stay somewhere long term and/or travel.

I am pulling back the curtain on travel costs and living expenses in Guatemala in 2021 during my one and a half month stay in March - May.

Guatemala Stay Expenses

During my 1.5 months in Guatemala from March 22, 2021 - May 6, 2021 I experienced different stays across the country. My stays in Guatemala included Antigua, Lake Atitlan at both San Marcos La Laguna and San Pedro La Laguna, and Guatemala City.

To give you insight into the expenses, keep in mind pricing will vary by season, length of stay, and media collaborations. In addition, the pandemic has definitely impacted pricing. Some of my stays were private homes and some private rooms as well.

Antigua, Guatemala

I paid $211 for my first stay for about two weeks in Antigua, Guatemala. My average was about $19-$23 a night. Keep in mind, these are both pandemic rates.

Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

I paid about $60 for my first stay for three nights glamping by Lake Atitlan in San Marcos La Laguna. The average nightly rate was about $20 nightly. My second stay for four weeks in San Pedro La Laguna with a beautiful Airbnb Digital Nomad Chalet overlooking Lake Atitlan was right at about $550. Keep in mind, these prices are subject to change at owner discretion, seasonality, etc.

Guatemala City

I found a beautiful private room stay at a house with a beautiful family and yard. I stayed for three nights and paid right around $75.

Food Expenses in Guatemala

I balanced my food expenses in Guatemala between grocery shopping, fresh markets and eating out on average 1-2 a week.

My average weekly to two-week grocery shopping at local markets and spending about $7 - $15 dollars including oat milk, bread, beans, fish and/or chicken, and snacks. This is about a third of the expenses compared to Costa Rica.

My weekly trip to the market included fruits and vegetables at about $5 including pineapple, strawberries, spinach, fresh juice, yuca and more!

Weekly, I would eat out about twice a week spending about $7 each time.

Last, but definitely not least I order Herbalife Global Nutrition monthly totaling about $60-$80 for the month.

As a result, my total weekly expenses ranged from $80 to $120, and monthly expenses ranged from $120-$200, respectively.

Transportation Costs in Guatemala

When I arrived in Guatemala, I used Uber to get to my first destination of Antigua, Costa Rica. It is much cheaper than a taxi. I spent about $25 for a two hour drive.

In Antigua for the whole time (~12 days), I spent about $5 in Uber costs. The city is very walkable and I only took an Uber once to help a guest and get laundry before they closed.

In comparison, in Lake Atitlan, I spent about 80Q/$10-$12 weekly on lanchas/boat rides.

I spent about $75 returning to Guatemala City from Lake Atitlan.

During my three days in Guatemala City, I spent about $12 in Uber rides.

As a result, my total transportation costs for about 1.5 months in Guatemala was about $150.

In short, no matter how you look at it much cheaper than a car note and than a rental car too!

Adventures, Clothing and Souvenirs

Before my travel to Guatemala, I decided I would spend about $200-$300 monthly on adventures, clothing and souvenirs. I have stayed at or below this amount with shopping in markets, influencer marketing collaborations like Desafio Adventure company, donating items, and considering space in my suitcase too!

In addition, I will ship souvenirs every three months or so to my family for less than $50 on average via posts and places.

During my time in Guatemala, I took 21 days off to not buy any clothes or souvenirs. Before that, I spent about $70, and after about $25. Guatemala has beautiful craftmanship all around the country.

Travel Costs in Guatemala

My challenge to you is to think outside the box with creative ways to manage travel costs and living expenses in Guatemala, or anywhere in the world!

What I have learned is that the more out of the box I think, the more I attract and learn about new opportunities as well. More importantly, the more leaps of faith I take, the more my eyes are opened to limitless possibilities.
