Stand Up Paddle Boarding at Sunrise with What SUP Bacalar in Bacalar, Mexico

My adventures in Bacalar, Mexico with What SUP Bacalar continue! If you love sunrise and sunset adventures, this one is for you! I love that I experienced sunset with Catamaran Sailing Experience, and sunrise with Stand Up Paddle Boarding with What SUP Bacalar!

Let me take you behind the scenes with sunrise Stand Up Paddle Boarding in Bacalar, Mexico!

My adventures have included skydiving in Houston one New Year, scuba diving in Cozumel, Egypt, Jamaica, surfing in Manuel Antonio and ocean view zip lining in Costa Rica to name a few!

Before my travel to Mexico in 2021, I knew I wanted to experience the best Cenotes, Tulum Jungle Gym, and Top 10 Things to Do in Tulum, as well as adventures in Bacalar and Valladolid. I knew I wanted to spend 90%+ of my sunrises and sunsets in Bacalar Lagoon.

In researching tour companies in Bacalar, Mexico, I came across What SUP Bacalar with Picaflor's owner Valerie. I did a collaboration and consulting with Digital Marketing with Picaflor via Workaway.

Although, I reached out to other tour companies but things didn't align easily. In comparison, with What SUP Bacalar, a neighbor connected me with Daniel in Sales and Marketing. We moved forward quickly initially on a catamaran Sailing tour with What SUP Bacalar at sunset.

Even before I experienced the sunrise catamaran sailing tour, they invited me for sunrise stand up paddle boarding! With the Catamaran Sailing Sunset tour, I knew What SUP Bacalar is best of the best. I knew I would love the Stand Up Paddle Boarding Sunrise Experience too!

Before I knew it, the time to experience yet another adventure in Mexico: Sunrise Stand Up Paddle Boarding with What SUP Bacalar arrived!

With Jenn who I worked with via Workaway, Guimel who I met via Picaflor!

What SUP Bacalar

What SUP Bacalar has operated for over 5 years in Bacalar, Mexico. You may find them at Yak House along the Bacalar Lagoon near the center. Daniel with Sales and Marketing is friendly, professional, and has a great sense of urgency.

Lorena, Customer Support Specialist goes above and beyond to make sure everything is aligned for your guests. For my hosted Sunrise Stand Up Paddle Boarding, our guides were Matias, Yazzmine, and Cesar (our prior sailing Captain!). Jenn and her sister Tanya came as well! They got a great group rate!

Not to mention, CNN featured them!

*Although the adventure is hosted, all opinions are my own.

I rated them 5 stars on Trip Advisor and Google for incredible service, friendliness, and safety all around!

My Experiences With What SUP Bacalar

This is my second time experiencing an adventure in Bacalar, Mexico with What SUP Bacalar. Thanks to rave recommendations from Picaflor, connecting with Luis-a tour guide, Daniel, Sales and Marketing, and the team Lorena and Cesar on our Catamaran Sailing Adventure in Bacalar, Mexico initially, and now with Stand Up Paddle Boarding at Sunrise!

What a way to experience sunrise and sunset at Bacalar Lagoon!

Bacalar, Mexico

Cenote Negro

I experienced connecting with Luis, Daniel and Lorena to organize our sailing adventure initially on a Catamaran for up to 6 people plus the Sailing Captain. Then for this one, I connected mainly with Lorena for Jenn, Tanya, Aga and I. Aga ended up not making it.

Before my adventure, I reviewed information via the What SUP Bacalar website. The sailing catamaran adventure let me see first hand how amazing Bacalar Lagoon is, as well as the team of What SUP Bacalar.

My second adventure with What SUP Bacalar at sunrise felt completely different and equally as magical.

What made this experience with What SUP Bacalar extra special included doing it with friends Jenn and her sister, Tanya.

While serving with Workaway and Picaflor, Jenn and I became fast friends and were roommates for my first five days in Bacalar! We experience the Catamaran Sunset Sailing together, as well as Cenote Cocalitos.

What SUP Bacalar is incredible. A Sailing Adventure and/or Stand Up Paddle Boarding
is a MUST during your visit in Bacalar!

Sunrise Stand Up Paddle Boarding in Bacalar, Mexico

Words and photos do not do capture the beauty of the sunrise on the Bacalar Lagoon, I will attempt to share my awe and wonder through words, photos, and videos of the What SUP Adventures. A huge thank you to Matias for taking pictures with his Go Pro for our sunrise adventure!

I want you to feel the adventure as if you are here with us.

We met at Yak House to sign in with Matias for the sunrise Stand Up Paddle Boarding at Bacalar Lagoon. Depending on their policies, you will need to book by paying online via a link or stop by Yak House the day before. If for any reason you aren't able to make an adventure due to circumstances outside your control, check with their team on policies for rebooking etc.

Bacalar, Mexico

We arrived at Yak House at the dock and pier in the back with time to have a safety briefing and insights on paddle boarding. We had a group of 10 people. For most people, including Jenn and Tanya, it was their first time stand up paddle boarding!

They do provide fruits and water and drinks in the tour as well.

Every moment, Matias, Yazzmine and Cesar helped give insights and history into Bacalar, Mexico.
Not to mention, tips to help us be better at Stand Up Paddle boarding!

For our first stop, we paddled to Cenote Negro about 2 km or so away. This is a must see and do when in Bacalar, Mexico. It is quiet and totally different at sunrise vs. sunset. In case you haven't done stand up paddle boarding yet, it is a work out! I loved that we got to chill for about 30 minutes or so at Cenote Negro!

We watched the sunrise from Cenote Negro.

For our next stop, we did stand up paddle boarding about 1-2 km to Pirates Channel. I loved seeing it again in the early morning! We enjoyed fruits like pithaya, dragon fruit at this spot. Some people played volleyball. I enjoyed lounging in the pristine water in silence and chatting with Jenn.

In case you didn't know, the channel was once called Canal de Salamanca, or Channel of Salamanca. It served as a point of connection between Europe and America. The focus being famous pirates like Henry Morgan (1635 - 1688) and Francis Drake (1543). - 1596) who took advantage of this commercial location to exploit the wealth of wood for repairing their boats and new ship construction.

If you have drone, this is definitely the spot for it! A drone is definitely on my list!

It is interesting to note that the pirate ship ruins and building you see here once was a restaurant.

Years ago, some entrepreneurs tried to start up a restaurant at Pirate Channel. Apparently, due to national park status and environmental protection, the government shut it down.

We spent about an hour this time at the channel. I loved it!!

This is undoubtedly one of the most incredible adventures I have laid eyes on and experienced!
It is easy to see why!

After visiting Pirates Channel, we stand up paddle boarded back to Yak Lake House for a total of about 5-6 km, or 3 miles ish for our morning workout!

I cannot thank Daniel, Lorena, Matias, Yazzmine, and Cesar with the What SUP Bacalar team enough for this incredible adventure and way to experience Bacalar, Mexico!
