My Experiences With Holbox Island

If you are connecting with me and us for the first time with FIT Life Creation, I traveled to Cancun, Mexico for the second time in 2019 since college creating content, as well as being hosted on an adventure with Airbnb.

My adventure with Airbnb included two incredible days in Holbox Island. My mind is blown in every way, and I will be back to stay longer!

It was interesting visiting Mexico 20+ years later with all the changes in my life. I reflected on how my health, wealth, business have transformed since then. If you are loving this guide, you will want to check out my In a Day Guide on Cancun, Isla Mujeres and more in this Flying High: Travel Series.

I thought it would be great to share my adventures with you and do a one day guide on Holbox Island, Mexico. Getting to Holbox Island includes a several hour drive from Cancun and a 15 min ferry ride from Chiquila.

Fun Facts About Holbox Island, Mexico

Secluded and peaceful islands are high up on my list of travel adventures. My story includes being conceived in Bulgaria, born in Poland, and in 4 countries by the time I was 2 (including a refugee camp in Italy.) 27+ countries later on my way to 100+ countries, here I am sharing on Holbox Island, Mexico.

I loved Holbox Island because of the peace, size, and experiences. Did you know the island is 2.5 miles long and about 1 mile at its widest point? About 2,000 people live there with approximately 100,000 people visiting annually. Speaking of wellness, you may swim in the middle of the bioluminescent experience. I did!

Holbox Island is known for its peaceful beach Las Nubes, street art, and famous Holbox Hammocks. Swimming with whale sharks, kite surfing and bioluminescent experiences delight the adventurous.

Holbox Island Arrival

My trip to Holbox Island was arranged by my Airbnb Adventure. It was great to have everything set up! We arrived at Holbox Island at sunset on the ferry. Of course, we had to grab an Instagrammable shot!

We arrived and grabbed some golf carts to head to our Airbnb. Casa Ohana means house of family. Isn't the home adorable? It was included with our Airbnb Adventure in Holbox, Island with Gustavo and Cedric!

We dropped off our luggage and headed off to explore the Holbox Island streets. One of my favorite stops included a fruit bar with smoothies only right on main street with Christina!

We had a quick appetizer with the group on main street and introductions with over 10 of us around the globe before heading off to our night adventure with bioluminescence. I highly recommend doing the experience.

You touch your hands in the water and it lights up like glitter (or jump in like I did!) While you are swimming in the pitch dark, the constellations above you are breathtaking. Moments like this I marvel at our Creator and creation.

According to an article by Off the Tourist Treadmill, Bioluminescence is light produced by an animal. It is a chemical reaction between Luciferin and Oxygen.

Once we got back, we headed out for some amazing street food. I got grilled chicken with Chimichurri sauce (garlic, olive oil, oregano, and basil). Best sauce EVER!

Holbox Island Beach

I knew the next day would be short on the island so I woke up at 6 am to shoot content for our mastermind and social media, and get ready for beach time and Holbox Island, Beach, and Hammocks.

Holbox Island is truly once in a. lifetime and worth every second. I'm sure you'll agree with these shots you see.

Reasons to Stay in Mexico Longer than One Day

There are many reasons to stay longer whether in Holbox Island or in Mexico in general. I've been three times to Mexico now, and continue to experience new things each time. I decided next time I come to Mexico I will definitely spend at least 4+ days in Holbox Island. I want to come during maybe September and swim with the whale sharks, go kite surfing, swim Yalahau cenote, and take a boat tour!

Pink Lakes

In case you missed Pink Lakes on my series - it is another bucket list worthy adventure for sure! If you are curious how and why the Pink Lakes are so pink, blame the red-colored algae, plankton and shrimp that thrive on the salty environment near the plant.

You will need to get a car to reach Pink Lakes.

Valladolid, Mexico

Valladolid, a bright colonial town reminds me of Cuba and brought back memories of my time in Cuba with our retreats.

Valladolid is breathtaking with beautiful colonial homes, colorful streets, and Cenote Zaci in the middle of town! Add a stop to Valladolid to your trip - you will love it!
