Botox: Everything You Want to Know

Tulum, Mexico: My Botox Experience with Bio Spa Clinique

Calling All My Wellness and Beauty Lovers to Tulum, Mexico for more reasons than one!

I am no stranger to wellness and beauty experiences! In fact, I find as the years go by, my love and experience of both increases!

My beauty and wellness experiences have included Herbalife Nutrition, massages, facials, manis and pedis, hair treatments, nose job, fillers, and anti-aging and preventative care like Botox to name just a few.

While in Tulum, Mexico in June 2021, I enjoyed a Botox Experience with Bio Spa Clinique.

Botox Background

This isn't my first time getting Botox by far. In my 20s, I read about Botox as a preventative treatment. I started getting treatments maybe once to twice a year. Later, I varied my treatments to 2 to 3 times a year. Each time, I am more than happy with the benefits and results and how long they last. I choose to tolerate the few seconds to minutes of pain for the end result.

Before my travel to Tulum, Mexico, I knew I wanted to do Botox again. Although I usually keep up with Botox treatments every 4 to 9 months, in 2020 I didn't. Earlier in 2021, I realized my last Botox injections were in late 2019.

I could definitely see the difference in between my eyes, forehead, eyebrows and crows feet. Not only that, last year I experienced my first migraine. I mention this because there are many professionals who believe Botox assists with migraines too.

Botox may be impacted based on the type of Botox used, amount of ccs, age you start, frequency of treatments, facial movement, climate you live in, and how active you are, There may be other factors involved as well.

Keep in mind, I started sooner rather than later, have remained pretty consistent, am very expressive, and work out at least 5 times a week. Typically, Botox typically lasts me approximately 3 to 6 months. For example, at the 3 to 4 month mark, I may see increased movement in various areas. In comparison, if I wait 6 months, I see any lines that have formed are visible.

Botox treatments and the amount of ccs vary by preference. I prefer to have little to very little movement between my eyes, forehead, eyebrows, and crowfeet. In a photoshoot with Glamour Shots, you may see how my forehead is smooth, no lines in between my eyes or above my eyebrows, and no crowfeet.

When I started competing and dropped 55+ lbs in 2013 to 2014, the line on the side of my mouth developed. This is typical when your face gets slimmer and for bodybuilders. It doesn't bother me too much. I have gotten filler here before once or twice.

All About Botox

Botox is a protein made from Botulinum toxin, which the bacterium Clostridium botulinum produces.

Although this is the same toxin that causes botulism. when doctors use it correctly and in small doses, it has both medical and cosmetic benefits.

It may be more known cosmetically to reduce the appearance of skin wrinkles. However, in 1989 the

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have approved it as a treatment for various health issues, including eyelid spasms, excessive sweating, some bladder disorders, and migraines.

How Botox Works Cosmetically

Botox blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. As a result, the injected muscle can't contract. That makes wrinkles relax and soften. Botox is used on forehead lines, crow's feet (lines around the eye), and frown lines. It typically lasts 3 to 4 months and may be impacted by a number of factors.

Before your Botox Treatments

You may want to know it is recommended to avoid alcohol, aspirin, and anti-inflammatory medications 1 to 2 weeks prior to treatment. This will help prevent you from bruising.

For regular readers and listeners, you may know I stopped drinking alcohol 5+ years ago. I don't take any medications. I solely take Herbalife Nutrition Supplements. However, I thought for many of you this may be information you would want to know.

Botox May Cause Discomfort and Pain When Injected

I don't think anyone likes having a needle go into your face. Even though it is for a few seconds, you do feel more pain than a mosquito bite. You may hear the injection going in as well.

Although I have a pretty high threshold for pain, I wince every time the needle goes in. At the same time, the end results outweigh the momentary pain for me. I read an article recently from a blogger that said there isn't any pain. It made me laugh. You are getting needles in your face. Come on.

Botox Injections Are Fast

Although the injections may not be the best feeling in the world, it is over fast! You will take before pictures making facial expression for the doctor. You will share what you want to change. The Doctor will determine how many ccs and/or units to inject. The entire process lasts less than 10 minutes depending on your questions. The injections themselves are over usually in less than 1 to 2 minutes.

You may be sore at the injection sites and/or have a slight headache.

What Not to Do After Botox Injections

After your Botox injections for 4 to 6 hours, don't:

1 Lay down

2 Rub the treated area

3 Workout

Any and all of these will likely impact your results.

Botox Results are Not Overnight

Do not expect to walk in, get injections, and have your face transform in less than 10 minutes.

The final results of Botox injections usually takes 7 to 14 days to take full effect.

If you have significant wrinkles that you have had for years, Botox may not create the results you want on its own. Depending on your history, circumstances, and desired results, your doctor may recommend fillers and/or other additional anti-aging or aesthetic treatments.

For example, since I have gotten Botox as preventative anti-aging for 10-15 years, certain wrinkles didn't form on my face. In addition, with my consistency and frequency, I usually see results faster. With time, consistency, and frequency, lines and wrinkles may appear less severe because muscles are shrinking from less use.

In comparison, when my dad tried Botox four years ago, the Doctor advised him right away on what to expect with the injections vs. fillers and other treatments.

What Else Impacts Botox?

So glad you asked! It is important to know that Botox is sensitive to heat, excessive agitation, and time.

As a result, supplies must be kept fresh and refrigerated. This is especially relevant for Mexico and Tulum!

Of course, the skill and accuracy of the injector is relevant. Botox works where it is injected. It is key for the Doctor to know where to target muscles, place injections, and how much to use.

At the same time, keep in mind no one is perfect. There is no one-size fits-all standard recipe for Botox. Larger muscles like in between your eyes typically require more.

For some of my visits for Botox, I have gotten as little as 20 cc/units when I am going regularly e.g. every 2 to 3 months. Other times, I have received 30 ccs and needed a touch up. Sometimes I have required in between 40 to 55 ccs especially when over 6 months to a year has passed since my last Botox injection.

My Experiences with Bio Spa Clinique Tulum

Jacqueline, the epitome of beauty and wellness herself, started Bio Spa (branded differently originally) over 12 years ago in Cancun, Mexico after transforming many areas of her life.

Although she worked in tourism for years, she decided to immerse herself in the world of beauty and wellness with aesthetics and anti-aging. She returned to Switzerland to complete her studies in anti-aging and aesthetics initially before opening the first clinic in Cancun.

After experiencing success with the clinic in Cancun, a Playa Del Carmen location followed. As Bio Spa Clinique continued to grow, Bio Spa Clinique Tulum opened about six years ago

(approximately 2015-2016).

She loves empowering women to feel and look their best from the inside out.

and Bio Spa Services.

How I Found Bio Spa Clinique Tulum

Bio Spa Clinique Tulum came up several times in my search online. After I reached out, Jacky personally responded beautifully from the start.

During our video chat with Doctor Belinda, we discussed Botox as well as

HIFU (High Intensity Ultrasound Facial). I ended up doing HIFU for the first time during my spa day.

I will see results in 1-3 months, and will be sharing more soon.

As you know, I love staying healthy like a boss from the inside out.

Before I knew it, my spa day to experience Botox and anti-aging services in Tulum, Mexico arrived!

Where is Bio Spa Clinique Tulum

They are located about a mile from Tulum Centro or the Ado Bus Station. Their location is Plaza Andador, Calle Ook-k'ot, Local Nr 38, atlas de Bodega Aurrera in Tulum. They are approximately half a mile from Super Aki and about .75 miles fro Chedraui Super Market.

They are easy to find with Google Directions and/or Waze App with "Bio Spa Clinique Tulum".

If you are driving, parking is right upfront.

How Clean is the Spa?

When I walked in, I saw right away how clean the spa is, as well as staff wearing masks and sanitizers readily available for use. The ambiance of the spa is peaceful and relaxing.

What is Their Team and Service Like?

From the moment I walked in, Niurca greeted me warmly right away.

She let me know she would be with me in a few minutes for my HIFU facial treatment

(I'll share more in a month with my first before/after)

She explained to me specifics, her education with aesthetics, what to expect with HIFU.

Any and all of my concerns were alleviated right away.

Once I finished with Niurca, I went to see Doctor Belinda for my Botox treatment. In observing her with other patients, I could readily see and feel the expertise, confidence, and trust developed.

She shared with me her love for aesthetics, Botox, and preventative benefits. Before doing the Botox injections, she shared with me upfront her conservative approach on Botox. With my experience with having Botox injections for years, this is common to me with all the practitioners that have helped me.

In addition, she assured me if I didn't see the results I wanted we would add units upon my follow up visit a week later. She explained where she would inject, and completed the injections as quickly as possible. No different than any of my prior experiences with Botox in the USA.

Make sure you research where and with who. you are getting Botox from no matter where you do it in the world. In the USA, I experienced a spa where it was obvious they diluted the Botox. They ended up being closed down a few years later.

What Were Your Botox Results Like?

During my original visit, she gave me 35 ccs/units.

Within one day to a few days, I noticed no to little movement in between my eyes, forehead, and crowfeet. I still saw significant movement and lines above the end of my eyebrows, as well as some movement in between my eyes.

As a result, I did end up wanting additional ccs in between my eyes and above my eyebrows. I returned after 7 days. Once Dr. Belinda saw the results after 7 days, she recommended 20 additional ccs/units.

I will evaluate my results on July 1, 2021, and share initial before and after photos and videos.

What is the Price for Botox at Bio Spa?

Your own price will depend on your own circumstances like how strong your muscles are, when you are starting Botox, how often you have received Botox, and the results you want.

No matter whether you get Botox in your hometown or while traveling or living in Tulum, Mexico at Bio Spa Clinique or their nearby locations, the Doctor and practitioner should advise you of how many units they believe you will need. If not, ask.

If you didn't know, Botox typically starts at about $11 per unit in the states.

In comparison, at Bio Spa Clinique it is $6 per unit.

Yet another reason you want to get Botox in Mexico at a reputable spa like Bio Spa Clinique.

You may definitely want to have a spa day in Tulum, Mexico or nearby Playa Del Carmen or Cancun with Bio Spa Clinique because of their professionalism, team, locations, results, and prices!
