I've always been driven by transformation and travel. From traveling to four countries by the time I was two (including a refugee camp in Italy) to experiences in 7+ industries before fulling taking the leap into entrepreneurship 9 years ago, I've always found pursuing passion, purpose and potential captivating.
While I often didn't align my faith and actions with what my heart truly desired, I did continue to fight. Fight for freedom in all forms - time, location, community, and financial. And after tons of failure, over the last decade I transformed every area of my life (and continue to). It all started with taking actions aligned with what I wanted.
Getting and staying healthy like a boss is key to impact passion, purpose, and potential.
Healthy Like a Boss
After losing over 55 lbs. in 2013-14 and keeping it off after years of failure, I realized how important being and staying healthy on and off the road is to the pursuit of potential. For the people in the back, let me repeat that I have failed thousands of times (if not millions) in every area of life. At the same time, I refuse to quit. I keep getting back up.
Throughout my entire life, whether in wealth, business or in health, this undying belief and action is the one thing that eventually leads me to results and success every single time. When I lived in Houston, I went from barely working out to signing up and finishing a century ride (100 miles) in Lake Tahoe with Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and doing my first triathlon.
When I moved to Atlanta in 2010, I did another century ride, two half marathons, and started to weight train regularly. And as a now Top 5 National Physique Committee Bikini Athlete, I still have life happen sometimes. This included breaking my foot surfing in 2016 and getting to rebuild my habits again. I thought once I arrived at destination healthy, I would always easily stay there. What I realized is that to create a life and business you love - a healthier spirit, mind and body will get you further than anything else.
After now being sober 5+ years and not eating sweets 3+ years, I can say the journey to get here was hard as hell. I can also say it is now easy because it is my new normal. But can anyone get and stay healthy like a boss regardless of what habits or results you have now? Yes, but your mindset and actions will change. Here's what you need to know to get and stay healthy like a boss.
1 Transformation Takes Time
This seems like the last thing you want to hear, but it's important I tell you the truth. You didn't get here overnight and you won't get to your destination overnight. I am not going to share or sell you on lose 90 lbs in 90 days (its possible).
It is a moment by moment choice. When I first started losing weight and keeping it off, I focused on 1-2 habits to change and replace each month in health. This started with choosing not to buy certain things anymore, and adding in two shakes a day. I evaluated each month.
The time to lose 55 lbs took a year and a half. It took a combination of healthy habits, Herbalife Nutrition, 6 Pack Meal Bags, Weight Workouts, Yoga and Dance. I continue to transform in every way and adopt the same mindset to every area of life. Your process will not look the same. Accept that transformation takes time.
2 You May Not See External Results Right Away
A picture is worth a thousand words. Keep in mind there are years between both of these photos.
The first thing you will likely notice is a change in how you feel. When you start making positive changes to what you eat and how you move, you will have more energy.
Some of you may see external results like losing inches or pounds right away, many will not. My journey started with losing 15 lbs. the first month and then a half a pound to a lb a week for awhile. My body shifted when I started incorporating other types of fitness. Consider taking photos and weighing yourself every two weeks. It helps you keep your sanity.
3 Start with Small Steps
Success with small steps leads to creating confidence. When you think better you make wiser choices. What small steps could you start with? Perhaps, its changing and replacing soda with soda water? Maybe you start by eating breakfast. One of the most important meals is what you eat before and after your workout.
Years ago, I would eat nothing before I worked out and reward myself with Reese's Peanut Butter cups afterwards and wonder why I didn't see any results. How you fuel your body before and after your workout matters so much that it is almost pointless to even workout if you aren't fueling yourself right.
Your body will literally pull from your muscle to get energy if you haven't fueled - resulting in an increase in your body fat. Easy to see how its self sabotage in action, right?
4 Create a Challenge to Work Towards
When I first started staying consistent in getting healthy and staying that way, I knew I needed a challenge. I knew I needed something to work towards to stay on track. That's how I chose century rides, half marathons, and triathlons. I love each and every experience.
Trying out so many things led me to ultimately discover what I love with fitness. I love weight training, dance and yoga. I love running outside. Find what you love to keep you going. Competing for me is an ultimate reward of getting my hair and makeup done and showing my hard work.
It is a test of grace and poise. It forces me to keep transforming and to release others opinions and how I place. Create a challenge to work towards so you keep transforming. Fall in love with who you are.
5 Take Your Transformation To Other Areas of Your Life
In my transformation journey of walking from fear to faith, devaluing to purity, self hate to love, corporate to calling and bondage to freedom, I have realized that treating my body like a temple impacts all areas of my life. It will yours too.
If you would have told me years ago that I would be 5+ years sober and 3+ years sweet free, I would have told you that you were crazy. I've realized with a clearer mind and time, that my spirit, mind and body are my biggest assets. So, why in the world would I or we put trash into them?
As a Multi-Passionate Entrepreneur, Creator and Traveler, I've realized that health impacts our passion, purpose and potential like nothing else. So, what if you made 2020 the year that you set a firm foundation in your health, your wealth, your business, your community? Make this the year that changes everything.
Passion, Purpose and Potential
Your passion, purpose and potential elevates when you get healthy in all ways. Love and care for yourself spirit, soul, mind and body.
How could you love you more now? Where do you want to elevate your passion, purpose, and potential? What will you take action on next?
It's time for you to get healthy like a boss!
